The same receptive vaginal sex was only .01% (yes, that's just 1/100th of 1% - e.g. 1 in 10,000). That means anal in that case was 340+ times more likely to cause HIV infection. In other words? It's about 1 in 29 encounters versus 1 in 10,000.

For example, why do you think gay men always had such a stigma with HIV? It's b/c their main intercourse realted activity is extremely high risk. So if they were doing it bare it would be rampant in their community. In hetero communities the likelihood of HIV for PIV sex, even more so today, is so insanely low that it was never equated with catching HIV. That's the reason.

You really don't want to do bare anal sex except within a committed relationship, or possibly where you have been strictly tested on a routine basis (such as how the porn industry operates).

The problem is the sphincter is very tight and the epithelium lining the rectum can tear, or even cause small nonvisible micro-tears, which leads to blood exposure. Blood is the #1 vector for most pathogens but especially so with HIV.
