Thank you. It’s nice to be appreciated. It wasn’t always that way.

In much of the 70s there was a lot of animosity toward veterans. We were called baby killers, among other things, due to the opposition to the war in Vietnam.

Most of us don’t look for thanks, but we appreciate it. We would appreciate even more if the public put more pressure on Congress to better address the needs of veterans, such as dealing with PTSD and other mental health issues.

    Thanks again!

    Yep.
Opinions and Assholes. Sometimes it's difficult to tell the difference - especially when you can't separate the two.

    Army. Viet Nam.
When I was in Nam, you could get laid for a pack of cigarettes. I didn't smoke, but every six days I was off and went to town with a carton of cigs and never came home with any...

Remember those days well, OY. The std pics they showed us at Ft. Lewis before shipping out to the Nam scared me so much I kept my dick in my pants for the 11 months 6 days I was in country. I was only 19-20 then and pretty naive. Not so much now! Ah youth...it is wasted on the young. Two thumbs up to all vets andactive duty but especially to those combat vets.

PSA FOR SERVICE CONNECTED DISABLED VETERANS SHOPPING BENEFIT

Beginning 1 January, 2020 the Department of Defense is extending in-store military exchange and commissary shopping privileges as well as MWR resale facility use to:

    • Purple Heart recipients

    • Former prisoners of war

    • All Veterans with service-connected disabilities

    • Caregivers or family caregivers registered as the primary caregiver for a veteran in the Department of Veterans Affairs Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers

The Aug 15, 2019 DoD Memorandum Explaining New Commissary, Exchange and MWR benefits as of Jan 2020 is at this link:

    https://publicaffairs-sme.com/Community/veterans

If your are a retired uniformed services veteran or veteran rated 100 percent disabled by the VA and have been issued the appropriate ID card you already have these privileges. This effectively extends the privilege to all other service connected veterans. If you receive a non-service connected VA pension please check with your local VA Regional Office, VSO, Claims Agent or Attorney.
