To be fair, when you look at the big picture, the site takes a lot of pains to avoid outright censorship. This just happens to be an area that can attract unwanted attention, and it makes sense to protect the community from said attention.
Maybe there could be a little more nuance, but nuance has a lot of complications on a site that has a limited number of volunteers enforcing site governance.
Everything has its pros and cons, and decentralized platforms can quickly deteriorate into a Lord of the Flies scenario. Maybe this is more of a benevolent dictatorship than a true democracy, but everything has its pros and cons.
This site is still here serving the community while others have fallen by the wayside. So despite the occasional takedown of posts and the inconvenience of having to rewrite them, maybe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
