Yes I agree with you, muscle is more dense than fat, so it is possible in certain circumstances to lose fat and gain muscle and stay the same weight. Now if she had bulked up to cross fit level or even body builder level I could see her gaining weight. The muscle that she gained is slim toned muscle so I'd be hard pressed to believe by looking at the size difference between the before and after photo that she did not lose weight overall. In fact if you read the article you're referencing in your post her real argument is that her intention in exercising was to manage her stress and mental health, not necessarily to lose weight.

All of these arguments are moot because the physicality of a person is assessed by looking at them. Like take me for instance, I'm overweight.
