Galveston get ready!! Time to visit the beach. (Not an ad)

Hey everyone! I'm visiting the area tomorrow and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ashley, I'm 25, black, with dreadlocs. I was hoping to find someone, hobbyist or companion, who could show my friend and me the area or at least give us some pointers on good restaurants, sights to see, etc. What is fun to do on the Island? I love visiting Galveston! Great seafood and lots to do. Guido's on the Seawall is a landmark restaurant, and Benno's farther down is good for casual Cajun. The Strand Historical District has plenty of bars, cafes, and shops, and a sweet treat at La King's Confectionery is a must! Taffy pulled onsite, and their vanilla ice cream sodas are made the old-fashioned way with REAL syrup stirred in and carbonated water added at the fountain.

Several places along the Seawall to hang out, have a drink and/or a bite, kick back, watch the surf and the peeps. Murdoch's, the Isle's oldest shell and souvenir shop hanging over the sea, has a big patio for observation. Have a grand and relaxing time!

You can not go wrong visiting The Spot on the seawall. The Rum Shack there at the top has the BEST pina coladas lol. Also if you're a gumbo lover I recommend Little Daddys Gumbo Bar! The BrickHouse has some good chicken wings in their special brickhouse sauce that I love. If I can help anymore send a PM and I'll be glad to assist!

Great options listed above! Here are a few more:

Seawall area - Nicks Seafood Kitchen (good eats), Poop Deck (nice outside bar), The Spot (already mentioned). There's also a new bar on the beach at 8th and Seawall called Flip Flops - I hear the food there isn't that great, but the location is terrific to go get a drink and watch the water.

Downtown - The Strand for shopping/browsing, Post office Street has some nice shops and art galleries, Coastal Grille is very good (on Strand and 19th, I believe). Another nice bar is the Rooftop Bar at the Tremont Hotel.

East End - yummy food at Sunflower Bakery on 14th, as well as Mosquito Cafe.

West End - Moody Gardens is worth a visit, but can be pricey. If you like craft beer, Galveston Island Brewing Co is a block off Seawall, around 97th, I think.
