    Seeking Opinion and Advice.

I am hoping to get some advice and opinion on my situation. Gents and ladies feel free to reply or PM based on any experience you might have had, either personally or with a friend or family member.

I found out 2 weeks I have Prostate Cancer, Stage 1B. I have read up on and researched the surgical options, and frankly, I don't see much benefit. The potential side effects and end results don't offer much quality of life afterward. I have been told I might not see much of a change for several years, then again, things could get rough in a matter of months. There has been some discussion about radiation treatments too.

So if you have any insight or experience with this, please share with me. I have been through a lot of crap in the past 2 years, so interestingly enough, I am at peace with this. I'm pretty much alone at this point in my life, although I know my daughter and son will be here for me. Thanks in advance. Post or PM. Blessings to all.
Ask about any of my past encounters.

I’m so sorry Risn. My understanding is that stage 1 is treatable. If I was in your place I would do what I could do to beat it. I’m sure your children would appreciate you fighting it and providing them with many more good years of memories.

    Best wishes brother.

Many prostate cancers are less than full on aggressive.

The Gleason score is an indicator of how slowly or quickly the cancer may spread.

1B is a very low indicator.

Urologists/oncologists usually will recommend that the patient assess all potential treatments in consideration of other major health conditions.

Often the prostate cancer's growth may be so slow that another more serious illness is expected to end life way before the prostate cancer might.

imo, best to consult second and even third oncology/urology specialists before committing to any treatment.

And, frankly, surgical options should be among the last courses of treatment considered.

Less invasive treatment, for example, should be the early options, especially if there is no family history of prostate cancer.

webmd.com has some very good explanations/discussions imo.

Stay upbeat and best of luck in beating the beast.

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis. Must have been quite a shock, maybe still is. Not sure what I would do in your circumstances, except for the usual wisdom of getting as much information as you can. It doesn't sound like you have to rush into anything.

I had to make a life-changing decision over a seriously invasive medical procedure once, and I won't go into detail, and it wasn't at all like yours. But I agonized over it for quite some time before I came to a decision. If I had it to do over again, I would have skipped the agonizing, but I don't know how I could have done that.

Eventually I found a doctor that I clicked with and trusted, and that made the decision easier. So I'd definitely recommend doctor shopping until your gut tells you that you've found a good one.

Hang in there, we're all rooting for you. Well, most of us, and the rest are probably rutting for you. Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers.
