Gulfport/Biloxi - go to the casino restaurants or stick with the chain restaurants like Outback, in my experience. Tug's Wharf, Blowfly Inn, and the other local places are mediocre at best.

Cajun's Fried Chicken in Gulfport, MS on Pass Road is my favorite Fried Chicken. Their cajun rice is great also. It is kinda dingy in there now but food has alwaye been pretty good to me. There is Cracker Barrel on hwy 49 and their Chicken Fried Steak is ok but I have had better. It's a chain, what can you expect right. It will get the job done in a pinch.

Girl, if you're from Dallas, The Shed will be a BIG disappointment!! See what I said above regarding local restaurants. If you've had Pappa's or Big Daddy's in Houston, then The Shed is pretty much dog food.

After seeing the same show on the food network I went to check out "The Shed".
I will not go back. Big hype - not my cup of BBQ.

For steaks there are Logans and Texas Roadhouse off I-10 and 49 (Gulfport)
and there is "Captain Al" - an interesting turf and surf place with unique local atmosphere
(ok steaks and shrimp served by cute waitresses) - one exit east of 49 on I-10.

Are you going to be in Gulfport (not Biloxi)? I may like to take a nibble or a lick ...

To qualify, my travels have been limited since Katrina. But the reply may help, if only to update my old recon.

On the MS Coast, most of the good local restaraunts were overcome by casino fever years ago. A couple of notable exceptions are the Blowfly Inn and Vrazel's. (There's also a great Italian place, but I can't remember the name.) So on to the casino's and the steak & chicken question. I always enjoyed meals at the Grand Casino in Biloxi. Chicken at the buffet was as good as any and their steak house served a good cut of meat. The Imperial Palace had a Brazilian grill that was a meat-eater's dream. You won't be disappointed at the Beau either.

The Shed was a great little shack to stop off at while taking a cruise in/on your favorite mode of transportation. Their reputation grew, shack grew, wait for food got long and you get the picture. The bbq was just "ok" so I haven't bothered with eating at the Shed in years. Now for my money, Rob's in Pascagoula has the best bbq ribs for a 200 mile radius (chicken is great too).

I never spent too much time in Hattiesburg. But I do remember a little run down trading post south of town on Hwy 49 (sorry, can't remember the name). First time I was taken there, I looked at the building and said "Are you sure?". We walked inside and I said "Are you really sure?". But, OMG, what a ribeye.

Best wishes for a safe and fun roadtrip,
EZ
