Is it a hobby, or is it Memorex?

Maybe not everyone here is old enough to remember the "Is it live or is it Memorex" advertisements. Back in the day when cassettes were cool, the idea was that it was hard to tell the difference between a live Ella Fitzgerald concert and a recording on Memorex tapes. Great marketing.

My question is, and mostly directed towards the ladies: we know that most guys consider this a hobby, but what about you? Is this a hobby that you've found ways to monetize? Or do you consider it a career, for now at least?

I don't think it matters either way, because your clients probably are more concerned with the overall experience from their side. And I can understand that it might be a marketing thing to say that you do this for fun and have other sources of income, which is totally none of our business.

But to the extent that you're comfortable talking about it, is this a hobby and a sideline for you, or are you all in?

And for the guys, is this your primary source of female companionship, or is it just a booty call?

For me, it varies from year to year depending on who I've met recently, but I'm pretty much all about the hobby for female companionship these days. At least female companionship of a very personal nature.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

My wife is my primary source of female companionship. When I first started hobbying, I thought it was all about the booty call, but it’s much more complex than that. I’ve enjoyed meeting so many wonderful women. With those I’ve met multiple times, I’ve enjoyed getting to know them, and sharing things with them that I cannot share with my wife. I’ve learned a lot.

And yes, I remember is it live or is it memorex! :-)

I don't think of escort activity as a career because my REAL job requirements demands a professional certification without any felony convictions. Hobby related is a fair description for some of us

It is a career for me, and primary source of reliable income for 6 years now! I have a lot of respect for it and it helps me to live a comfortable and enjoyable lifestyle and make my own schedule. I also have other business dealings in my personal life that I enjoy doing a lot, as secondary income. Maybe the two will switch occasionally or more permanently, I would be okay with that, and I’m also okay earning my primary income from S.W. as I enjoy it. I consider all of them my “real” jobs. If you run it as a full time business it will function like one in my opinion. If you are more part time or choose to do it as a secondary income or hobby then that’s also cool. I mean, it IS a great source of income. I think pretty progressively in terms of sexuality and don’t consider myself to subscribe to moralistic, classist, sexist type judgements on sex work. I view SW as being valid, well earned income. .:)
