We all know that the P and other competing board members are allowed to flame anyone at anytime for any reason, within the rules of each respective site. I flame when I find it necessary and have been flamed as well. My question is, does your temperament on here spill to the civilian world? I know I am regularly reprimanded on several sites (Apple, USA Today) for my flaming and shortness with their forum members. So..........is your temperament on here the same as it is on other civilian boards?

I'm an easy going person and seldom if ever flame anyone. I just don't see it as needed - and in this internet world so much communication can be misunderstood. I do lose my temper at times in the real world, but I've mellowed in my old age. Kind of like good wine - before it turns into vinegar.

Oh, I also learned from my friends in China that "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". It's worked.

I think there are 2 different types of flaming that typically occur.

The easy one to talk about is when someone without a lot of posts puts up a review without meaningful comments or "enough" comments to someone else's satisfaction. The flames start, the WKs come out and say the Babe deserves a better review, blah blah blah.

IMHO that is so counterproductive to the entire reason we have the board -ie, INFORMATION sharing.
Clearly we all know someone without BCD privileges doesn't have a clue what to write. And those who lurk without BCD don't see any difference between a review written by Pornstaro which makes us all go smoke a cigarette or JUMP on the phone and the newbie. So they don't even understand why there are flames.

But more importantly than simply chastising the poster, we chase off guys who may otherwise contribute to the Board - including all the lurkers, registered or unregistered. And it only hurts all of us in the long run by causing guys to hold their information back because some asshole feels compelled to beat his chest that the poster should have done a better job.

AND of course, we all forget that at one time before we got BCD none of us had a clue how to write a review.

So the next time you feel compelled to write something, consider helping the guy write a better review so he can put something usefull for all of us - YEA I know, that would take REAL work on your part, and its so much easier to turn on the flame thrower and show how cool you are.

The second kind of flaming is responding to posts where someone gives their opinion - I think posting a well thoughout response is what the discussion boards are all about and they should welcome the various views.

I sure bet that people who read these flames get intimidated on replying and starting new threads for fear of what would happen to them if they write crappy. But sometimes people say or write some stupid shit and need to get a fire lit underneath them. I don't know....but it does seem that you are already the resident post ho on here CB. lol :D

You know, I tried to join ASPD like 3 years ago and with my first review I got flamed SO bad I went back to lurking for a while. I studied writing a review and came back. I guess my point is it took 2 and a half years to try to post.

BTW, I forgot my handle, password and everything, so I asked staff if they could look up that one post and I was told to just start a account. It's hard to know what to write when you never get to see comments.

I'm a regular poster on Fark, where if you're not flaming or being politically and socially incorrect you're not going to get anywhere. Understandably I have to curb that here. In real life I tell you how it is and if you don't like it, then go cry somewhere.
