Rumor has it that the last outage was a scheduled event. Regardless, it caused a lot of panic and anxiety among the members.
Having had to do server maintenance for previous employers, I know it's not a big effort to throw up a "banner maintenance page" during updates. It certainly would eliminate most of the nervous speculation and numerous threads on other sites regarding info being hacked, etc. Please consider this for future updates. ~ Thanks, Lox
The recent issue was unexpected and not a scheduled event or update, so we were unable to give advance warning. The chief HAS notified the membership in the past of planned maintenance requiring H2 go offline via administrative announcements at the tops of main forums.
A banner maintenance page is a valid consideration, however, if practical. No idea how complicated that would be as I don't speak Geek or Tech, but I will pass it on. Every website has to go dark occasionally for a brisk brush-up and gremlin boot, and a sign on the front door would certainly be preferable to a 404 error/page not found notice. Thanks! -- FIH/staff
Fancy is correct! The Captain, in the past, has notified members about maintenance issues before they happened. However, I saw posts from all OH2 staff, over on the E, about the tech issue and it being a temporary outage. I thought the OH2 staff did a good job keeping members informed especially Fancy!!
I'd agree. There wasn't any condemnation implied, merely a suggestion based upon my own experiences in the IT world.Quote:
