Grab some live shrimp, mud minnows or finger mullet and head to Seawolf Park or Fort Travis (on the Boliver side). November is Flounder month in the Galveston Bay system. The Fall migration peaks this month. Outgoing tide is best.
Also, remember that during the month of November, the flounder daily bag limit drops from 5 to 2. Min length 14".
On Seawall and 90th there is a huge fishing pier called Galveston Fishing Pier and try your luck there. If you're just trying to pull up a few small fish, get a double drop leader and use very small hooks, then bait it with very small pieces of dead shrimp. Then just cast it out and wait for the pull.
Here is their website and it even has a cam to show the water conditions and to see if the pier is crowded or not.

Its been a while but has anyone been fishing lately the surf has a lot of action going on! Ive been a few times but ever since I sorda broke my lucky pole I’ve only caught hardheads:( lol
Can someone give me advice on how to catch flounder without lures that would be nice! Thanks
Dorthy... your best bet for flounder is either live mud minnows or live finger mullet on a leader. Target area are rocks, channels, or drop offs. Some good places they are caught at are Texas city dike, seawolf park, broken bridge on Frenchtown rd on bolivar or the ferry landing. Also you've got to learn to not set the hook like traditional fishing. They tend to bite and kill their food first so you have to wait for them to swallow.... you'll know cause you'll feel a second thump. It's weird to explain but easy to understand later. Either way pm me and I'll be happy to tell you whatever i know to help
Why not catch flounder with lures? It’s very easy just cast and retrieve with a twitch. They lay on the sea bottom will bite anything that is swimming over them or bumped onto them. A double tangem with gulp swimming mullets is the go to. Using mud minnows is a bit boring Since you just cast and hope one swims by
Agree with cdb - mud minnows or live finger mullet. I use a 1/0 hook on a short leader, and a 1/2 oz egg sinker above the leader. If I'm on a pier, I'll jig near the pilings. As cdb said, you don't pull on the first thump - I let it sit for a minute or so, then gently pull to see if he's still there. You might feel another thump or two, then you'll feel the fish pulling. That's when you set the hook. When baiting the hook, for a mud minnow, I'll hook him through the lips. For a mullet, I'll hook it through the tail.

Makes sense lol. Well you can always do as the other guys say and go with an egg weight or chatter chartuese weight With a 12inch leader tied to a 4/0 kahle hook. Work it also like a lure and you can catch yourself some bull reds/trout/flounder with it.
Fishing this week should be good with the cold front coming in this weekend
Flounda seasons means a lot poles that have of double drop leaders with finger mullets and very rude bank fisherman....I won’t say what race but we all know those people lol.
I’ll be in gtown this Saturday
There are several weather buoy apps that will help with timing the surf for excellent fishing, Liveweather is just one app. FYI - This Friday should be excellent, and Thursday should be good, but Friday is the ticket. I caught a fat saddle blanket (Flounder) on the back side of Seawolf park & SS Selma. Will send piv if i can find it.
No flounder but I caught 3 bull reds this evening & I’m one happy girl although one broke my eye at the top of my pole I thought I was going to break my pole! I have this superstition thing my pole is break apart but the top half has to be turned to the left if not I don’t catch anything! I have people all the time trying to correct me and have to explain myself! Cold front is coming and the fishies know it! Supposed to be going to Rockport In a couple weeks for a fishing trip on a pier I’ve never seen! I miss copano pier will always be my favorite sad it will never reopen but have faith one day I will kayak to it and have a blast! Hope everyone catches something this weekend!
Nice catch, Dorthy! Good luck on your Rockport trip!

Since I Have A lot Of Time On My Hands Guess I Will Go Fishing! Reds Are Hitting & I Need That Excitement In My Life!
It's open 24/7 & free at night. I was just there yesterday.
I'd love to meet you there someday.
Here Fishy Fishy !
Growing up I spent many dollars worth of dead shrimp fishing off the old highway that parallels Copano Bay bridge. Did the old bridge get destroyed during Harvey?
Headed down to Galveston tomorrow. Don't know whether it will be 61st, 91st, or Seawolf Park pier. I can hardly wait for September through November to get here for the bull red run.
Good luck to you on your next fishing trip.
Nice haul, DJ! I live further east (Beaumont area), went down to the south end of Pleasure Island one morning last weekend, and caught five flounder (two keepers) and a large sheepshead.

Right before the hurricane half of the bridge had fell in the water while people were fishing & so they had closed it! Then the hurricane hit the bridge and they closed it for good! So many good memories on that bridge wish there was a way to get it back!
I’ve been fishing but haven’t caught anything spectacular but did learn I can’t park on the levy and fish lol oops !
Honestly right now it’s ridiculous with all the wanna be fishing people it’s getting frustrating even people I know who have boats are getting aggravated because of the influx of people ! Hopefully they go back to work soon and I get my fishing spots back lol!
Have you ever fished at the Texas city dike ?
I found this on the fishing app I have now Everytime I see sheepshead I laugh! You’re catching more than me make sure you have mosquito spray because they’re carrying people off the grid lol! Best $6 I’ve spent in a while!
Crabs have been super bad grrrr I’m going fishing in Louisiana memorial weekend maybe I will have better luck !
I'm heading to southern MO next Thursday with my fly rod to catch Rainbows....can't fucking wait!
I've fished the dike a few times, but always get hung up on the rocks. I went to Seawolf Park pier on Monday and was king of the pier.....when you count big hardheads. :damncomputer: I use a double drop leader made of piano wire, 2 hooks, and a big weight with cut sand trout. One hit I had was a huge one and I was hoping bull red or big black drum. Actually I had two 4 pound hardheads on the same leader. We had to get the net for that big mess. Hardheads=snot sharks.
I'm a bit upset at Galveston Fishing Pier (91st) because they allow their 'cliques' to do practically anything they want to do in the surf rod areas at the T. It's dog eat dog at the surf rod area at the T head.
Yea might as well fish at the jetties if you’re going to lose tackle on rocks meh nothing more frustrating
Is it bad that I laughed at your hard heads lmao I know you were mad & you had to get a net lmao ! I need to go buy me another rod I can’t find one I like though I’m picky I like the stiff rods I hate flimsy rods makes me want to through that shit in the water ! I just can’t throw them as far !
Did you go fishing at night or during the day ? One day I’m going to go there & fish but I like fishing at night I seem to have better luck for some reason ! At least you caught something lmao
DM why don't you like baitcasters? I know you're an experienced fisherperson. Just wondering what you don't like about them. BTW i fish the TC Dike alot, especialy in the summer at night when the trout are running. I set up the lights and fish live shrimp under a popping cork and it's on. Been surf fishing Boliver alot lately doing good on the drum and bull reds.
Baitcaster is all I use. That's what my grandfather taught me to use since I was eight - learned on an Ambassadeur 5000. I'm 55 now, and still have that old reel.
