Las Vegas, here I come!

Next month I'll be visiting Las Vegas for the first time. My plan is to see as many sights and have as much fun as possible! Sadly, I'm not experienced in playing some of the more involved games like Blackjack or Poker. But I will at least hit up the slot machines. Besides the casinos, where else should I go? I'd definitely love to see a show while there. Walking is my preferred method to get around so any suggestions of attractions that are within a mile or maybe two of the Strip would be greatly appreciated.
