My son (7) wants one but I know nothing about them. Can someone point me in the right direction as for one that would be great & exciting for him.
Thanks in advance!

I would advise you to start with something small and simple. Let him get used to the flight controls. He will crash it soon enough so let him learn on an inexpensive one.
Vantop - Snaptain SP350 Drone with Remote Controller - Blue .it's at best buy for 40.00. It' durable
Definately start small and cheap Brooke, he will slam that bad boy into the wall and it's better to trash a 40 dollar toy that a several hundred dollar piece of electronic equipment. Id let him start in the yard where there's more room instead of the living room where he might take out the Christmas tree. Drones are fun but take some getting use to. Believe me ive trashed a few that i use for fishing so i buy used cheap drones now.
I say go with a more expensive drone, such as a DJI Phantom, all models after the Phantom 2 have sensors that will stop the drone before it crashes into tree or walls, and an automatic home button to return it from where you took off. and there's no struggle to keep it hovering, as you can release the control and it will hover in place.
Thank you for the recommendations! I think I'll check out the one from best buy first & see how that goes :-)
Brooke......kids can sometime tear up an anvil with a rubber hammer.......good choice
did he like his drone?
He already crashed it on the roof :-(
