Two things that might help:
1) Cupping: They pull a suction on cups ranging from 1/2" up to 3" that are placed on the areas where you're feeling pain. The theory behind the treatment is that knots form when muscle fibers are tangled on themselves. Picture a ball of spaghetti. The suction pulls these muscle fibers up and allows them to lay back in line. There's always some massaging as well to help the process but full disclaimer ... it leaves some really bad hickey marks (in circle shapes) that hang around for a few days. The relief I get from it is is not 100% but I've been barely able to move and then felt functional afterwards. It's an eastern medicine so when I used to have it done then go to the gym I'd get stares from white folk (like me) and Asians would just give me the head nod.
2) Chiropractic: I used to think that they were just freaking quack neck poppers. While it's true they almost always pop your neck during a session they have also gotten hips and shoulders to pop that brought instant relief to my lower back. It's odd to think that popping your neck and shoulders would help your lower back but a lot of the muscles that are in your back connect your head to your lower back. There's a chain (the joint) that provides fairly cheap sessions if you buy the package of visits. I hated the upsell during the consultation but now I go see them once a month. They always guilt trip me that I'm not coming in enough but I feel like they are just a tool to help.
One final thought, deep stretching on a regular basis helps a lot. I'm not a super fit person but regular stretching (hot shower with feet crossed toe touching, upper back stretches... you can look more up online) really helps keep me out of the two places mentioned above. I can tell when I'm about to have a flare up and it usually because I've been slacking off on my stretches.
Hope you feel better soon!!

Thank you so much. I have received some pm with some good references. I hope to be able to make time for myself soon enough to go and work these kinks out...

I worked to hard when I was young and the back is kind of used up. Chiropractor can do wonderful things for a back, $25 if you have good insurance. some are a lot better than other as with anything
