Current additional information for bumping this thread, I don't receive random messages unless you send me a friend request first. A companion thought she was blocked and that wasn't the case. I eliminate penpal opportunities and encourage phone calls for setting appointments. Calls are faster/easier for me. Hearing the sound of a real VOICE is more a personalized touch for getting to know you.
Agreed about hearing a voice, but I'm not putting a number on the internet. I have 2 phones, one only for this part of my life. I'm not going to literally write down their info from a phone call, best to email it so I can just hit delete.
I do have a one call preference before I meet, like you said, you can tell a lot about a person's demeanor with an actual conversation.
