    Restaurant recommendations for Dallas

    Hello all.

I used to live in Dallas and am looking to surprise my sister for her birthday.

When I was young, I remember going to Reunion Tower as a teen and eating in that rotating restaurant a few times.

The scenery and ambiance were amazing, and the food was so-so, but not great.

A few years back, I remember seeing that Wolfgang Puck had bought that restaurant and was hopeful for a revisit, but sadly, it went out of business before I could make it back.

I know that Deep Ellum and the Reunion Area aren't the hot spots they used to be, and it seems Oak Lawn is the new "place to be" for fine dining.

Can someone please recommend a great restaurant in Dallas that has it all?
Views, ambiance, great food, and service...

    Or something close to it?
    Price is not a factor.

    Thanks in advance !

    Johnny -

Although not a restaurant it is a great visual. I took my daughter up here several times when she was a kid as she always said about "the building the the hole in it". Not sure of the visiting hours and guest floors.

I think that Reunion Tower now has a restaurant but my VPN is coding everything in Portuguese. So look it up on your own

Nick and Sam’s. Seen many different cowboy players there eating dinner. Also the wait staff there is top notch, nothing like them flexing their slabs of meat on a board for you. By far, they have some of the best quality of meat in the city.(also have wagu, if your into that). I also concur with Trulucks for a seafood option. But if you want something great Nick and Sam’s is the way to go. Let them know you’re celebrating her birthday, they tend to go way above and beyond for that stuff. And great pictures with their 13 layered slice of cake(only get 1 slice, do not order more than one).

I wish I knew. The food here is terrible. I still can't find any good Mexican food. I did a video food review of a Taqueria place near that Oak Lawn street and it was horrible. The highest rated Mexican restaurants in Dallas area usually tastes like a 2 or 3 out of 10, and they all have 5 scores on yelp. It's insane to me. That's mostly because people in Dallas haven't eaten Mexican food outside of Dallas or Texas. The scenery is bad here as well. Arizona (Sonoran style) and Los Angeles has the best Mexican food I've ever eaten.

It’s a hole in the wall. Look up Papayas in Arlington. Everyone I have taken their loves it. It’s Mexican food with a Salvadorian twist.

    Javiers in Dallas.
Genuine Mexican Cuisine, upscale and not TexMex. Javier likes to drive McLarens. He usually has his parked in front.

For Tex Mex, La Hacienda Ranch, several locations in DFW

Crown Block is the current restaurant in Reunion Tower. Very expensive, which is fine for me, but I hear it?s very uneven.

For a really nice, fancy or special dinner, I?d think you might look into these places. With the exception of the last one, I?ve eaten at them all.

Lucia. Best in town. Great food, but not especially fancy or formal. Reservation open 10 a.m; 60 days in advance, as I recall, and are gone by noon.

Mansion in Turtle Creek. Formalish. Food is good, but not flat out amazing. decent list.

Nonna. Very good Tex/Cal/Italian. Best combination of quality and value in town. And you can get in if you?re willing to book a week or two in advance. Well selected decent sized list. Value wines and the good stuff both.

Fearings?. Big hotel restaurant. But don?t let that put you off. Very good food, excellent service. Best sommelier in town, Paul Bottamer. Well selected, but not terribly deep list. Also a great blend of quality and value.

Sister. Small, even intimate. Nit dressy or fancy by Dallas standards. And the food is very, very good, especially at the price. I eat there 2-4 times a month.

Georgie. Very nice Cal./American. Really nice wine list. food is too hitch. As good as any here, as it should be at the rice.

Quarter Acre. New but very, very good. New Zealand centric wine list that?s very reasonably priced.

Neighborhood Services. Business casual American bistro. Quality is very, very good. Casual but polished service.

Pappas Brothers steak. Good food, but an amazing wine list. Best in town bar none. And what passes for semi-reasonable mark ups these days. List is on line and usually very current.

Carlos Elegante. Interesting place. Kind if Mexican-ish fusion cuisine. I dint like every dish, but there are none that aren?t very interesting.

Mr. Charles. Fancy food, but good. They pull out the stops in terms if elegance and service. A bit too much for my taste, but I still eat there once every four to six weeks.

Crown Block is the restaurant in the Reunion Tower. By reputation? I haven?t eaten there ? it?s fancy and uneven.

if you need recommendations on a slightly or significantly lower price tier, just ask.

Likewise, if it?s a high end place, other than chains and steak places, odds are high I?ve eaten there. Glad to answer questions.
