Anyway, as a person who loves making people laugh, I've found that if you joke about offensive material and people get upset with you, it's because it wasn't a funny joke and has little to do with the subject material itself. I truly believe you CAN joke about anything...you just have to be funny

If you do make offensive jokes, you can't be surprised people don't like them...but you can win those people over by being funny and clever. That's the whole point...otherwise you're just an edgelord

Some are simply more sensitive than others when it comes to certain jokes, whatever their reason maybe. Jokes about the mentally challenged (even light hearted ones) tend to strike a nerve.

I offered people often. I also don't mind dark humor. And people already know how I am (most of them) when I start getting annoyed in text lol. I have regulars in Houston who would do it because they said im cute when I tell them off. Bottom line, it's who I am. Be who you are. Set yourself apart from others. Girl, don't even sweat it. It's actually pretty funny that THAT was the joke to die on the "you just lost yourself a customer" hill. I understand how those things can strike a nerve with some people - as Ally had mentioned - and I am unaware of the context here as well, but ultimately it lead to two people never spending time with each other that wouldn't habe enjoyed each other in the first place. Everyone wins!

Yeah sorry I wouldn't even consider that in the realm of jokes. But would I go out of my way to privately message you to let you know I wouldn't be seeing you? No. Are there some jokes about mentally challenged people that are funny, yes, but that's just not one of them in my opinion. But like you said, opinions may vary on what's actually funny.
