Cool I'm looking for fish tank set up! Willing to discount/partial trade!

My kiddo really wants a fishy or 2. Only looking for a 10 gal tops, if you have the filter etc as well even better, if not and just the tank let me know please! Willing to discount the session and would depend on what all you have exactly. But don't need one of those huge aquariums. She is 6 so something small and basic as I'm thinking either one beta fish or a couple of those glo fishes. Thank you in advance!

    I'm also looking for
    Baking sheet
    13x9 cake pan
    Muffin pan
    Blackout curtains
    Pitcher for tea
    Vacuum
    Mop/swiffer wetjet

Otherwise my new place came fully furnished as it was an airbnb but she wound up letting me sign a lease until the end of May! So I already have most of the stuff. If you also have anything pink for a girls room that would be awesome as well!

Idk anywhere I go seems to be pricey 🤷*♀️ it just seems to have what I'm looking for in terms of tank cleaners (snails, shrimp, etc) or plants (the floating or fully submerged ones), they also have tank that come with filters/lights/pumps for easy set ups

Try looking on FB marketplace. There are also some groups in Austin where people post items for free.

They have a dollar/gallon tank deal once a year with petsmart, I managed to get one last year!

I have a few tanks but then I couldn't get more cute frogs :(

Actually bigger tanks are easier for beginners: more water, more buffer…. At least to the point of physical dimensions…. It’s a pain moving a 75g glass tank… ;-)
The art of tropical fish keeping is achieving and maintaining water balance (nitrogen cycle, O2/CO2 balance, temperature stability).
For a beginner, min 20g tank, start with a few cheap fish ( expect to loose half of them, rejoice if you don’t )… Get in the habit of feeding, watching the fish daily. Don’t overfeed! They should eat all of the food in 5 minutes. Follow the 3 months rule, ie, make a change (new filter, lights, fish, heater, etc), give it 3 months to stabilize before the next change. Follow the 1” of fish per gallon rule (that’s full grown measurement, a 1” fish that will grow to 3” counts as 3”). Go slow, this is a lifetime hobby. Enjoy!

A 10 Gallon becomes inadequate very quickly, imo. As InTheWind suggested, I'd also recommend getting a 20 gallon at minimum.

Most of the in-person stores are gonna be super expensive, especially with the recent inflation going on with everything retail. Definitely try to get the most expensive things second hand.

Order recurring fish supplies online when possible, as it's usually better with prices.

If you rather support in-person stores, check out Pet Supplies Plus. Those are locally owned and they usually have decent coupons sent out (especially for reward members). I prefer spending money there than the bigger chain stores for sure! And the employees are a lot more helpful. Personable.

Don’t mix betas with other fish. Betas don’t play well with others.

I’ll admit, past several years, Aquatek has been my go to store. One, they are knowledgeable on their incoming stock, and will isolate and medically treat as needed. Chains are usually buyer beware…. Here’s a hint, if you are in a store and you see an interesting fish, google it, right there. Look for size, and where it is from (Indonesia, Amazon river, etc), and aggression level. Some recommend a regional tank (Amazon River, etc). Also I always treat my tanks with PraziPro when adding new fish. Not quite as good as an isolation tank, but a lot better than nothing…

Well.... lol had issues with the little 7gal I had picked up on marketplace, it had one of those black things attached to back of tank inside and definitely had constant issues with the water.

Luckily I have switched to a 10gal with a sponge filter and levels have stayed consistent and great for weeks now. I now have 5 ember tetra, 2 dwarf Cory's and 2 dwarf blue velvet shrimp. I REALLY want to breed some blue velvet eventually once I have some more experience under my belt but have researched and seems like they're pretty easy to handle. All 3 of those kind stay at or below an inch. I do want to start a planted tank for the shrimp breeding/fry tank and this has already become an obsession but I absolutely love watching them. The Cory's are the absolute CUTEST swimmers and their little whiskers look like a mustache!

I lost all but 1 of my original fish from first batch lol so yall were right with that one but again that tank going bye bye because it was an absolute pain to deal with! But thank you guys! Sorry I'm just seeing all of this I don't check Bat Cave that often lol

You mean the small tanks with the filter system built in? If so, those things are typically trash...sorry to hear you got ripped off on Marketplace.

It's typically best sticking to base aquariums (when it comes to second hand purchases), even then you need to inspect the corners and everything to make sure there isn't much damage with the silicone seal.

Good luck with tank breeding if you do it! That definitely requires a lot of patience. I only tried it for a short while. I could never get my breeding tank to cycle correctly, so turned it into a turtle tank instead.

Yes with the filter system build in! Luckily it was off a buy nothing group but still lost about 60 worth of fish/shrimp but about to get rid of that one and get another base one!
