This is a horrible idea. Just pay cash. It leaves no trail, and it doesn't mysteriously stop working on turn out to be something it's not after you leave. Everyone gets what they want.

I'd suggest that providers avoid taking anything other than cash. Between the paper trail and the possibility for reversal (gift cards can be used by their numbers online before you use them, for example) this seems like a terrible idea.
