researched - found someone's whole life too quickly

so I was basically just browsing, and ran across an ad. I highlighted the number and clicked "google search" It's like the first thing a smart monger should do. I mean safety first right? Anyhow, so it turns out this "particular individual" used her REAL number on her add. Kind of. It led me to a legit above board business (one or two people owner operated kind of business). And that quickly lead me to a facebook page and home address and number and real names and everything.

This was basically all google page one top 3 entries kind of shit. I was like OMG. This person is doxing themselves so hard. probably doesn't even know it.

My first instinct was to contact her and let her know, but then I paused. I don't know this person. She could be batshit crazy. I have no idea what the right way to approach this is.

IF I was to message you and let you know I know everything about you, you would think I was some hacker/ninja/crazy stalker extortionist etc. Not someone who cares about people in general and doesn't want to see someone get into a dangerous situation.

I know I can explain how I found all her info so quick, but if she's scared it's possible she would have a emotional defensive reaction (due to how major this could be for her), and no longer have a normal logical conversation.

Also she could not really give two shits, and all this is just a though exercise, but it's an interested topic of conversation either way.

Make a throwaway email account, send her a polite info about privacy and doxxing and send it. Then just forget about it. If she wants to fix it, then she will. Nothing else to do at this point and just leave what you know about her buried.

There have been several cases where hobby ladies have shown up on Fakebook under the people you may know section. One of the ladies I knew pretty well and I let her know about it. The others I did not.

There's been a lot of this going around. I just assume they know what they're doing. Most of the time it doesn't look like it.
Lot of bitter ass dudes out there that would love nothing more than to ruin someones life. So for that I worry.
You might let them know on the sites they adv on instead of their real life profiles (since someone else may come in contact with your pm).

I use my real name, I use my real phone number, I own a small business here but I also know how to delete threads, never save nbers unless asked too. I am at risk of anytime my company being sued just by one salty person. Imo I risk more. I use all my real name, etc because I don't lie about who I am but I would never risk anyone else. Hence risking being able to sued if someone gets upset

I for one would appreciate someone informing me of this info. I actually had something similar happen in my RW when I first started chatting on the internet. A guy from California wound up at my door. Yes I tripped but quickly learned how to prevent that from happening again.

I forgot for a couple days I actually posted this, I don't know why I didn't think about a throw away email, that's brilliant. I'm going to do that. to her hobby account. I agree with her RL accounts being to risky.

Then I can just email her the info, explanation how I found it and just basically abandon the email address forever. My guilt and worry gone, and it's up to her what she does with the info. I don't like to judge how people do their thing, just don't want to see anyone get hurt if there is something I could have done to prevent it. I guess I still have a little WK left in me from the good old days. haha.

I agree with you! Since there are so many scam advertisements today, then I also Google phone before I attempt to contact; likewise I have uncovered their personal information and wondered if they knew WTF they were doing, especially if they used the same number for strictly personal stuff (like their kids schools, medical providers, social clubs, etc.) I mostly assumed that some "jump into" this activity without doing enough homework and research, but you are right in that making them aware may not be well received.

Yeah. Really need to address it in a way that conveys that you're concerned with someone trying to sabotage or blackmail them in some way and want to help them prevent that by making them aware of the issue.
They may question why you dug into their personal life to begin with, but all too often just simply googling their # will lead back to potential address info and screen names that lead to their real life profiles.

They have way too much shit to deal with in regards to potential police, flaking, robbery, and ETC. Adding online/local stalkers into the mix will really put a damper on them that much more. Best to try whatever you can to keep them out of harms way.
This community has no protections to begin with except for legit people on forums posting legit info. It's important to protect who you can.
