Does anyone know how I could make this? Or can you make this?

I would love to make few of these, but I wouldn't know where to start.

I guess the first step would be a few brand new bike tires, but what about the shelves? Do I have to buy the wood & cut it myself? How do I get them to stay in place? How do I hang it on the wall? Soooo many questions

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Or if you think you can easily make a few of these, shoot me a price!

    Thanks ~ B

Just by looking at the picture. I say buy the tires and measure the width of the inside of tire and then go to lowe's and buy the wood. Get the wood that will fit snug in the tire. Cut the wood and paint it . Glue it to the inside of the tire. Put a couple of small hanging nails on the wall so you can put the tire on.

Shouldn't be difficult to do, but you would need the wood shelves and a way to cut them to length and width. I do woodworking as a hobby - shouldn't be too difficult. If you want to shoot me a PM, we could talk through some options.

They really are super cute, I'm always looking for clever ways to store & display toys.

Those cube shelves from Ikea changed my life when I became a mommy ... lol. I hate toy boxes where everything is just thrown in a box.

You could put screws into the back side of the shelving to more securely hold it in place, Or both sides if you paint over the heads or find black screws.

Brooke.....you can probably pick up a used tire at any motorcycle shop free. They are a pain in the ass for them to get rid of. Depending on the tire size, you will need the slats of wood to fit a little snug. More than likely you will need to cut the wood down go size or get someone to cut it for you. I would probably use black drywall screws and go thru the tire and into the end of wood slat. I would also pre drill the holes. Yhe heads will probably suck down below the surface of the tire.
The hardest part will be maintaining equal spacing of the slats. Lots of ways to keep them straight

I went to home depo & was completely overwhelmed. I know I sound dramatic, but I was almost crying. I really wish I was more talented with projects & wood working so I could build/create a lot of the projects my son asks for. I just really don't have a creative eye or any carpentry skills. I'm so unskilled I actually have to pay people to put together Ikea furniture when I buy it :-(

This must be how my mom felt when I would ask her to braid my hair as a child. She used to get so upset that she could not braid it as I liked. I understand now.

I was hoping to handmake this for sentimental value, but it looks like I'm just going to hire one of the gents that PMed me.

Speaking of stuff I wish I could do ... this is amazing. What a great place to hid a gun/cash/gold.

Brooke, please don't feel bad about not having certain skills. Woodworking is a very complex (and expensive!) hobby. It's often more cost-effective (and safer) to hire out a project such as this. It sounds like you've received a lot of responses, so I wish you the best of luck in selecting someone that can help you!

I am a wood worker, this is easy. Willing to do a trade of services?

    If not then here goes...

Rough cut your lumber into approximate lengthed slats, then miter the edges to contour to the round shape of your tire.

Run your slats through a table saw to get the perfect width.

Run your slats through a planer to get the perfect thickness.

Make spacers so that your shelves are evenly spaced.

Use a finishing nailer to nail the slats to the tire.

    Done.

Lemme know if you need help.
