You are talking about a 10 YO car most likely, with about 150,000 miles, so make sure the people you are dealing with can show you some maintenance records.
Ever hear of the Blue Book? if you find a car you like fill out the information on that car in Blue book to see about its value. Can help you.
Also, If it were me I would be looking for a accura, mazda or honda.
Sweetie I am no expert on used cards, but one think I have learned is that it is a crap shoot when buying an older car. I know you want to keep the cost down and get a reliable car. So two thoughts. Take the car for a longish test drove. At least 20 minutes, get on a freeway and make sure it car smoothly gets up to speed. Look at the gages, you need to know where they are supposed to be so you can make sure they are working correctly. If gages do not work, pass on the car. Last, I'm sure you have seen these ads for "repair Insurance". Look into it for the car you are thinking about buying. No matter how well it is maintained, things can still go wrong on older cars.
    Hope this helps a little.
