Are there any Divorce attorney’s on here and if so would you be open to Barter with me ?

I’m trying to start the process but as a single parent and working a full time job I just can’t afford it right now. I am going to be active on the boards and I hope I come across the right person to help me out with a trade.

If the divorce is uncontested the process should be really simple. If you contact your local law library they will have a packet where you can literally just fill in the blanks as you go and no need to hire a Divorce attorney. Also you may be able to dismiss the filing fee by filing a Paupers Affidavit.

You get what you pay for that^^^. I can’t count the number of those “freebie” divorces that had to be fixed. Many of which cost more to fix the screwups that if I started with a blank slate.

Divorces that involve children and custody agreements can get very messy and adversarial. You need a lawyer, that is without question. All of the dirt that is to be dug will get dragged out into the open and there will be no easy way about it. As soon as kids, custody and child support become an issue expect a battle that will be expensive for all no matter how you slice it. Good luck to you.

Doc is right: You get what you pay for. Additionally, any do-it-yourself divorces in Bexar County have to go thru the district court's staff attorneys offices. They are backlogged for months. You'd be lucky to get it done this year.

Borrow money for that.

Nothing will be done fast. It might be few month, before resolution and you don't want to be stuck "paying" for that long.

If your "proper attorney" get paid with proper cash - you can ask from him/her for promised results. What will you ask for from your "hobby" attorney?! You could get yourself in tight spot.

OP, if you can come up with a $1k retainer, I can refer you to an excellent family law firm. The 1k gets the proceedings started- the fees would then vary depending on the factors & complexity of your case.
