I’m one of those girls that wanted a private venue but have not been to the private venue socials. I did not rsvp to any of them. The previous two I could not attend because I had a previous obligation.

This most recent one I got a very intense case of introversion and required a “safe” and fun escort. To me these events aren’t a party. It’s a networking event. I’ll have to make rounds and introduce myself. Try to find a tactful end to conversations to continue my rounds. Avoid drinking because I’ll have to drive. Try not to piss people off if I just don’t WANT to talk to them at that exact moment. (It’s happened before.) I’m there to show myself, have light conversations to give people an idea of my personality and scope out other providers to see if there is someone I’d like to experience myself. I’ll have to be “on” the entire time because I’m very aware that the hobby is my business and I am just one vendor in a this conference filled potential clients. I also personally find large groups of people draining. I shine best 1v1 when I can give someone my full attention.

Having a trusted friend to hide behind if it gets to be too much would have settled me.

My first choice could not be convinced to go. A very lovely man has since volunteered to escort me to a future one so barring a pre-booked engagement for the evening of the next one I will be there.

The Socials are an incredibly valuable resource for all of us, ladies and gents.
