I retired from the Marine Corps in 2013. To keep my family in the home they want and the schools, doctors, etc- I work contracts overseas in 3rd world shit holes 9 months a year. For the past 3yrs I was in northern Iraq- Starting April 1st I'll be in spending 75% of the year in Nigeria. The past 6 years have had me in Mali, Chad, Kenya, Afghanistan (4 times) Iraq (7 times) South Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.

I was taking care of old people for many ears as my RWJ and after my "friend" has died in my arms last week, I have decided to take care only of myself and for a while I will not work for others.

I am one of the many people that moved here recently. This place is cheaper in some regard to where I used to live. However, unless you work in tech, most jobs don't pay much. I work in healthcare and took a 15hr pay cut here in Austin. Dallas and Houston is about 5 to 8hr more. I live north of Austin as it's more affordable.
