What price range are you looking for? I've stayed at the Grand Galvez in the past, and it's very nice, but the price strongly reflects that. As for getting there and back, there's a bus that goes between airports and the cruise terminal that might be a bit easier on your finances (if that's what you're looking for). Honestly, I think your options for hobbying would be limited in Galveston. Add to that you have no means of transportation, and hotels can be expensive down there depending on location, I think you’d be better off in the Houston area.
