Please Help received threatening calls and do not know what to do

Guys, I am freaked out. I new to the hobbying and I have received texts and calls from this creepy guy that sounds like he is in the cartel saying how I ruined his business and must pay him now or he will kill me and my family. He sent me pictures of guns and cut off heads. I am freaking out, he said it was for wasting his ladies time, and that he was going to kill me if I did not wire money to him. He was then asking for my name, which I gave him a fake one, but I am so freaked out I am worried it could be legit, if voice on the phone was terrifying. I don't know what to do if I should go the police or just like completely change my phone number and block his number. I looked up the number, said it was from California. Please any helpful advice would be great I really hope it is just a scam, but I don't know how to handle this.

Scam dont worry about it. I got that last february and laughed at him and taunted them back by text messages. Dont worry. Going forward make sure you use a hobby phone or burner phone though

So, very similar idk if he used that name, I was in California on golf trip and I think we just were like hitting up random numbers after a round and lots of beers, deleted the texts when I got home then like week ago later (today) a text from the girl saying her pimp was gonna find me with active men, and all this bullshit, idk super sketchy honestly freaked me out and ended up settling for 200 on this like wiring system, then canceled my debit card and ordered a new one, gave him a fake name and just blocked him. Googled the number and the girls number came up on the escort fish website.

I was like on adderall and got way to much anxiety and just panicked. I should not have paid him, but this reading this makes me a feel better about blocking them, really freaked me out. Man I knew it was like pretty sketch I just got freaked out by that shit and am no way like a veteran hobbyst, so for sure crumpled under the pressure.

May I suggest more of a DIPLOMATIC approach to your dilemma?

Thisis just another example of why you use a burner phone. Be safe out there.

You are a mark for paying them anything. Marks like you are the reason these types of scams are even a thing. Marks like you salt the hobby game for the rest of us. That's the long and the short of it right there, Bubba. :hardhead:

^^^ perfect reason for having at least one (if not more) hobby phones. And or using an app even with a hobby phone.

All any of us can do is immediately block such incoming numbers; never respond, likely they will move along.

Definitely consider reporting the issues to LE; such threats likely violate state and federal criminal statutes.
