Are we having a halloweenie social this year??
Sucks considering it’s always been my favorite social but
Hope things get a bit better between now and then ... (wishful thinking)

We are in the final planning stage for one in Houston. I would have already posted about it but Beta has delayed things.
I personally advise against it. We’re all taking enough of a risk with our one-to-one encounters.
Pardon me Mr. Cover but I am not aware of anyone being forced to attend the events. If one doesn’t feel comfortable attending, don’t go. Simple enough.
OK, Smart Guy. Find me a venue who would agree to host such an event. And if they agree, I’m not going because they’re more interested in trying to get a good night’s till than someone getting sick and dying. We are in different times. I’m personally not planning on waiting for you to catch up to reality. For you to advocate a public gathering right now among the people who do what we do is ignorant and dangerous. You’ve always been ignorant, but adding dangerous is actually not unexpected. Stand down and go away.
Let's all hold our fire until we see whites of their ayes.
At this moment, in San Antonio, at least, the odds are decent that some sort of shin-dig might --- accent --- MIGHT --- happen. But at this moment no details are forthcoming.
As for other cities, venues are possibly gonna be able to operate at 50 to 75 percent capacity, whatever that means either now or next month.
There is always Hope, of course (I think I met her oncet or twice!).
I am strenuously opposed to any social gathering of more than 5-6 known and trusted people taking place. I wouldn’t attend a larger gathering for many reasons:
(1) We are in a very very very high risk play zone, and honesty is not always a given.
(2) Any venue that this year would host a large party like the Halloweenie is only interested in their till, and not our safety.
(3) Dafuq you thinking?? Stay safe!
I'm thinking that if you are healthy and under 40 (or at least not ancient) you don't have to act like the sky is falling. I can't wait to attend any gatherings that are happening.

Each to his/her own; imo, organizers/hosts are what/who they are.
Invitees, ditto.
Attendees, double ditto.
Smart people will do what they should do. Especially if they might be coronamorbid prone.
Socials per se never really ended, they just slimmed way down and savvy folks did what had to be done the way the health experts recommended.
As for discussion herein, too early for this to continue right now.
